Buddha Bar-Why did I bother?

VivaLsVgs | Jun 19, 2006 06:57 PM

The space: gorgeous, the food: meh, the service: indifferent and rude. In a nutshell, here's what transpired:

Went there on Saturday night, read the warnings on this board but had to check out the decor for myself. The surroundings did not disappoint....dazzling and very inviting. The menu was another story. I found it very limited with not many selections at all. They bill themselves as "family style" ( same as Spice Market and Buddakan) but we left feeling hungry because the portions were so small. They brought us bottled water without even asking and even opened a second bottle and started pouring. The bus boy came over and asked if we wanted edamame for the table. Since it was not a menu item, we assumed there was no charge (almost like a bread basket being offered at other restaurants). When am I going to learn my lesson about assuming? Ha!Ha! When we got the bill, we charged $16 for the bottled water and $16 for the edamame!!! When I called the waitress over and questioned her, she said there is always a charge for the edamame and because we had more than 2 people at our table they brought over a larger portion! I told her this was not acceptable and she left in a huff to talk w/ a manager. She finally came back 10 minutes later and agreed to take off $8 for the water and $8 for the edamame. I then stopped the manager when he walked by and reminded him politely that he has alot of competition in this neighborhood (Spice Market and Buddakan) and these types of faux pas would not serve him well. He snapped his tongue at me and walked away! Needless to say, I will not be returning. Big disappointment!
