Another acclaimed, trendy place disappoints. So what else is new.
To start, the menu isn't very interesting. No beef, no pork, no chicken, no lamb. It's got one quail and one bison dish. The rest is seafood. Disappointing, but fair enough. It's strictly a seafood place. OK. The problem is they couldn't get the seafood right.
We started with salum di mare, slices of smoked fish. The pieces were miniscule and so thin that you could read through them. Worse, they were horribly oversmoked. Smoke was all you could taste. Overpriced and terrible at the same time.
Next, we had fried seafood. It was soggy and blah. I've had better from the supermarket freezer case. We moved on to octopus. It was OK, but nothing special. You can do much better on the Danforth. (Try Parthenon). The finale of tiramasu was some redemption. It was excellent. The only other plus was the waiters, who were very professional and knowledgeable.
I don't know how to compares to the King St branch, but dinner at Buca Yorkville wouldn't exactly encourage me to go.
