Had dinner at Buca De Beppo--just opened up in Miami Lakes. It is a chain--started in Ohio, I believe. The atmosphere is fun--homey, immigrant Italian, with lots of photos, etc. You can eat at a table right in the kitchen, if you like. The service was great. The atmosphere was fun--the food was not good. Expensive and not good. The idea is that you order and eat "family style". In other words, order a pasta dish and you get a huge trough of food and it is expected that the others in your party will share. OK--but the sauce was awful, the pasta was fairly edible, the wine was awful, and I sent my chicken saltimboca back to the kitchen. Some sort of pressed, fake chicken was salty and rubbery--topped with crisped cheese and a mystery thing that was supposed to be??? After I sent my food back, we were approached by a man with a very phoney Italian accent who said he was the manager. He managed alright--he managed to apologize for the food in a very snide manner--but he did, at least deduct it from the bill. I shared some of my spouse's ravioli, and we ended up at home with major cases of heartburn. WOOF! what a dog! (with apologies to chowhounds everywhere...) I won't be back there any time in the future.
