bubble tea

I'm back home in St. Louis after a very frenetic trip to NYC. I'm hopeful that all the food I ate will be balanced by all the miles I walked. Went out to Flushing for the first time to the Asian community. As the subject of this post suggests, I discovered bubble tea. There's a tea shop (an amazing place with zillions of tea varieties) called Ten Ren's Tea. The staff was delightful and very eager to help. The young man dispensing and making the tea drinks apologized for his poor English but I was quick to point out that it was far better than my Taiwanese! Bubble tea came in an astonishing array of flavors: hot, cold, with crushed ice, without ice, with milk and without. My favorite was a taro shake (with milk) and of course a large scoop of black tapioca waiting at the bottom of the cup. I can't compare it to the Mott St. place I've seen here on the boards, but I loved that stuff. Now that I know how easy it is to get to Flushing, I'll definitely go again. Ate lunch at Joe's Shanghai and it was Very good. Have to say, though, bubble tea was the star. pat
