Brunellos Italian/Mesa AZ

So I've wanted to try this place for a long time. Talked hubby and friends into going there last night.
What a mistake. I was displeased with the service and the food.
To start off, our waiter took our drink order and came back 10 minutes later with the 2 glasses of wine, 1 martini and a coke. Keep in mind there were all of 3 occupied tables in the whole place.
So....we get our drinks, then we ordered some apps. Hubby and I got escargot and friends' got stuffed shrooms.
We waited
And waited. I saw bread being delivered to the other tables, but alas, we were forgotten. Had to ask for bread. He said it was in the oven and would be right out. When it did come out, it was that generic, white loaf, sliced and served with herbed butter. Eh...it was ok.
On to the appetizers. Our snails were perched atop mushroomd and covered in a brown sauce that looked like thick, french onion soup. I'm not sure WHAT it was, but it was pretty tasteless. Bummer, I was looking for yummy snails. Gone are the days of Beefeaters, where the snails were served in the shell. YUM! Those were the days.......
The stuffed shrooms were covered in a gray looking sauce. It was pretty salty, so I passed on the shrooms.

After finishing the apps and waiting for the plates to be cleared, and waiting.....and waiting.....we FINALLY see our waiter. He takes our orders and so begins the whole waiting game again.

For our entrees, I had a dish called Shrimp Michaelangelo, which is shrimp in a sauce of cream, cognac, shallots, mushrooms and tarragon.
It came with potato and veggies.
The sauce the shrimp was swimming in, was not at all like I imagined it would be. It was thick and tasted like gravy.....not the light, creamy sauce I had hoped for. I ate 2 of my shrimp and called it a night. The veggies were good....sauteed in garlic and butter.

Hubby had Veal Saltimbocca which is a sauce made with marsala wine, spinach, prosciutto and cheese. It looked like the same sauce that was on the snails, so I didn't try it....plus I don't like veal.

Friends had the canneloni florentina. It was decent...better than my dish. Canneloni filled with meat and spinach, topped with cheese, bechamel and meat sauce. And the other had veal parmigiana. I didn't try it.

Hubby and I didn't like our dishes, friends thought thiers were just ok.

I won't go there again because nothing really impressed me. Especially not the food.

I had high hopes, but they were too high, I guess. Nothing is as good as Tutti Santi, so they had pretty big shoes to fill.

Anyone else try this place?
