We had a nice brunch at the North End Grill today.
My husband ordered the Johnnycake Benedict, with Lamb Bacon, Poached Eggs, Chipotle Hollandaise. Perfectly poached eggs. Nice lamb bacon. I loved the flavors of the chipotle hollandaise with the johnnycakes. Delicious! He also had an excellent variation on the bloody mary with scotch -- Famous Grouse! Served with a charred shisito pepper. He was very pleased.
I had the Chorizo Tacos with Cheesy Scrambled Eggs and Avocado Salsa which was only OK. The tortillas were corn (I was hoping for flour) and a little soggy. They quickly became unmanageable given how much filling there was -- one of them started to disintegrate on the first bite, even. There was not enough chorizo in the tacos. And what was there was overwhelmed by too much salsa and avocados. This was a promising dish that could have been much better executed. I wished I had gotten one of the other egg dishes instead.
The Maple-Bacon Croissant rescued my meal for me. Crispy, flaky, with a sticky glaze. It looked like a regular old plain croissant, but inside was delicious, wonderful bacon in the center. I was eating the shards off my plate, and picking up every last piece of bacon. Wow! I almost wanted to order two. One of my dining companions tried mine, and quickly asked the server if she could have one too. Marvelous.
Good service, and they let us linger for quite a while. They seemed busy but not slammed. I'll be back to try one of the other egg dishes, and a maple-bacon croissant. Or three!
