So, having heard their was a yummy Southern brunch at Elite, we went last Sunday. Bottom Line: not worth the $$.
I had all sides - the biscuit & gravy, cheese grits, greens, coffee & a mimosa. Michael had a seafood benedict thing, coffee & a bloody mary. Our bill was $50 with tip, I think.
First, the tiny mimosa was $9 which is robbery. The famous meetinghouse biscuit was so minature it was disgraceful and I don't know why they bother calling it a biscuit when its much more like shortbread. The gravy was very good but doesn't work with the crumbly supposed-biscuit. The cheese grits were good and I'd say they are one of the top three places in the bay area to get grits (Luka's & Memphis Minnies are the other two) but just about everyone else serves plain, watery instant grits so its not a difficult contest to win. The greens...the greens...the greens - they made my heart sing!! They are literally the best greens I've put in my mouth in years - spicy, flavorful & just the right "al dente". Yum! Most places boil the hell out of collard greens, but Elite's were firm with some tooth to them but not so much that they were the raw, endless-chewing mess that happens sometimes.
I had a couple of bites of Michael's dish which was good - the eggs were perfectly done and the hollandaise was quite nice though the seafood wasn't that interesting to me.
So there you go.
