british snacks/food, dutchess county

for any of those interested, i don't think i posted on this before...

a few months back, we went to jeanie bean's in clinton corners (salt point turnpike - maybe 1-2 miles east of the taconic?). it's a house which has sofas and chairs when you step in, and then right beyond that, the eating area. since there are no walls, it feels larger than it is.

it's a british food place, with decent food in the british fashion. not a 'deep' menu, but british comfort food dishes. the catches - two. they're only open limited hours on the weekend - i believe they close at 4 pm on saturday and sunday. and the day we were there, the service was abysmally slow.

they also have various british biscuits, i think aero bars as well, but didn't have lion bars, yorkies, etc.

the reason i thought of this...stop and shop (!) carries some of the british chocolates like the lion bars and yorkies. they also had some crisps, but nothing too fancy. however, it's hit or miss; the poughkeepsie stop and shop on route 44 stopped carrying them last year, but the one on route 9 (in poughkeepsie) still had them, and i think the one in beekman (route 55) did as well.

there are also candies carried at s&s as well, but it pleasantly surprised me the first time i saw that.
