Brine for feta cheese

When I buy a container of feta cheese, it's packed in brine. As I use up the cheese, I need to replenish the brine to keep the cheese submerged. Is it just salted water? Any suggestions on proportions? In the past I've just made up a mixture of salt and water and sometimes it's just toooooo salty.
