I just got new info. on the under construction food court in North Berkeley.
Old news: There is a food court going up next to Cesar in the Gourmet Ghetto. It's being funded by Cesar's owners. It will feature high-end take-out. Cesar will have a stand serving tapas, paella and Spanish groceries (cured meats, oils, etc.)
Kirala will have a stand serving fresh sushi to go. The big mystery was who is going to get the remaining three stands. There's been a lot of competition for those spots.
And the winners are: Gelateria Naia, a soup place, and Gregoire. Naia is no Sketch, but it will be good for them to move out of the cursed Downtown. A place that serves delicious soups for take out will be great for the neighborhood. But it's Gregoire that I'm really excited about. Now wait, you say, isn't Gregoire already located just down the street? Yes, but he is opening a second take out place with an entirely different menu and concept. The concept is a secret. According to Gregoire, it's something wonderful and unique almost nobody has heard of before.
I'm just bursting with excitment about this. They're hoping to open by the end of the year. Does anybody else have any news on the development?
