Not sure where I got these tips from, but they sound pretty good (unless noted, I haven't tried personally). Some places may be out of business. Opinions, news, and other suggestions welcome. One request: if you want to discuss non-breakfast items at any of these places, please start a new thread.
Sorted alphabetically by town....except the first, which is a tip for some guys who are about to stay in Secaucus:
Stack Pancake & Steak House: terrific pancakes, and fab breakfasts overall. great coffee, too. 205 River Rd, North Arlington (near Secaucus), 201-991-1023
Atlantic Highlands: White Crystal Diner, 20 Center Ave. 732- 291-9589 old fashioned diner.
Bayonne: Bayonne Diner on 8th St and B'way, 24-hours
Bloomsbury: Country Pride Restaurant. TravelCenters truck stop, x7, I-78. 908- 479-4136 breakfast huge portions. Pancakes and biscuits.
Bordentown: Mastoris Diner 144 rt 130 609-298-4650 exit 7 206 north 1 mile. enormous place & portions, cinnamon bread and cheese bread. A bit of a factory (it's HUGE), but fun. Northernmost venue for unself-conscious grits. I've eaten here.
Brielle: Mariner's Cove, 712 Union Ave.732-528-6023. Remodeled old-time diner offers every imaginable omelet.
East Orange: Harris Diner 21 N Park St (973) 675-9703
Edison: LePeep Restaurant, 561 Route 1, 732-819-7666. banana French toast.
Hazlet: Jim's Burger Haven, 1215 Rte. 36, 732- 264-6990 breakfast/burger joint '60s vintage. bacon-and-egg sandwich.
Jersey City: La Conquita across from Tania's Grove & Bay, a block N of Grove St. PATH. cheap, great. scrambled eggs w/chopped ham and fries, chix/rice w/beans roast pork cafe con leche close circa 7: 30.
Little Ferry: Harry's Corner on rt 46 EBd. breakfast: get double egg/saus./ketch. Totally blue-collar non-yuppie great breakfast. Might be out of biz? I've eaten here.
Livingston: Ritz Diner 72 East Mt. Pleasant Ave. baked apple pancakes
Lyndhurst: Lyndhurst Diner, 540 Riverside Ave. 201-933-7660, great breakfast[17/3/Tpk west of Secaucus]
Newark: Marie's 24 hour diner Christy and Ferry (looked good)
North Bergen: Irene's, a homey Peruvian restaurant at 254 E. Congress (maybe good breakfast)
Paterson: The Egg Platter 159 Crooks Avenue off 46 201-684-3291 antique diner I've eaten here.
Spray Beach: Bayside Diner, 2404 Long Beach Blvd., Diner. Specialty: fresh blueberry pancakes.
Summit: Summit Diner. Summit Avenue and Union Place. 908- 277-3256 vintage diner, great breakfast
Westfield: Excellent Diner 222 North Ave, nj (north of Union near 22)
Woodbridge: Reo Diner, 392 Amboy Ave.near 514 732-634-9200: A Jersey legend. Try the feta cheese and spinach omelet.
