best bread for tea sandwiches?

budino | Feb 24, 2004 08:42 AM

am thowing an oscar shindig and thought a variety of tea sandwiches would be a nice addition. I'm going to be making 3 kinds: smoked salmon with cukes, cr ch and dill; sopressata with tapenade and goat cheese; and egg salad with asparagus and radishes. Pumpernickel is the natural for the salmon and I'll probably use that dense german stuff that looks like a brick. Am wondering what to use for the other 2? anyone know of a good packaged bread that's sliced very thin? Or a good place in manhattan or brooklyn that slices their own delicious bread? Not sure I trust myself to be able to slice whole boules thin enough, unless you can recommend something that's no-fail...
