I'm trying to find a white bread that can stand up to spreading cream cheese and doesn't just disintegrate in the mouth. All the regular grocery store brands that I've tried tear when I spread butter or cream cheese (even when they're softened), and just become soggy mush at first bite. I don't mind going to a bakery; in fact, I think I prefer that to a loaf that's been sitting in a store for a week.
I saw English Toasting Bread in a store today and it felt pretty firm. Would that be a good choice? When I Googled it, all the responses referred to English muffins!
