Bread sampling in Portland and Mexican in Vancouver?

adamclyde | Nov 8, 2005 10:53 AM

I've heard a lot about the artisan breads in the pacific northwest. I'm going to be visiting the Portland area for a few days later this week and would love to try some great breads.

In reading through a bunch of older posts (thanks esp. to extramsg) it looks like Ken's Bakery in Portland is great. Is that my best bet for good artisan breads? Any others I should try as well as or instead of? What would your recommendation be on what really showcases their breads? Baguettes? Also, do you know if Ken's is a devout sourdough kinda place (i.e., natural v. commercial leavening)? That would be cool...

Completely unrelated... we'll be staying with friends in Vancouver, WA. Any suggestions on mexican in Vancouver proper? I've read about some places in Portland, but wondering if good mexican is to be had in Vancouver.

Many thanks in advance - I'm really looking forward to the visit.

- Adam
