On Tuesday I tried one of the breakfast offerings at Bread n' Chu. It reopened this month.
The Spam and egg sandwich, $8.50, featured Spam katsu with marinated soft-cooked egg and spicy mayo on Japanese-style milk bread. The panko-crusted katsu treatment of the Spam is a definite keeper, adding firmer structure and satisfying crunch to the lunch meat. The moist and spongy milk bread was fine and sported a signature brand mark, but not as light as Breadbelly's. I couldn't taste the spicy mayo. Overall, the salinity of the marinated egg combined with the salty Spam made for extreme salt overload even with that much bread.
While this was not the breakfast sandwich of my dreams, I like the concept here and would return to try something else. Customers were respectful of social distancing and the eager staff were courteous and friendly. And they include a couple alcohol wipes with your order. It was easy to park on the street and there's a bench outside to wait the 10 to 20 minutes for one's order.
