Bread machine issue

I used the fruit & nut setting to try to make a cinnamon, raisin, & walnut loaf. I stayed within easy earshot so that I would be able to hear the supposed beep so that I could then add the items to the dispenser. It never did beep! Does anyone have any idea why? At the very least maybe someone could tell me at what point to add these ingredients. Also I don't quite get how it is going to open up to accommodate the extra ingredients.......& yes, I went by the amounts indicated in the recipe exactly. Although I have made many other loaves in this Breadman, this was my first time to endeavor to use this feature.
