Brasserie Les Voyous

My husband and I were wandering down Hollywood Boulevard looking for dinner last night when we saw this place, at the corner of Hollywood and Schrader. I'd never noticed it before, and it was near empty- my husband thought it must be new. Turns out, it's been there almost a year.

We decided to try it, and were quite pleasantly surprised. The bread they brought out was four teensy pieces of grilled baguette with the faintest bit of garlic rubbed into it.

My husband ordered the steak frites and I had the salami/cheese/pate appetizer platter. His steak came with a light coating of peppercorns and was quite nice, and the fries were crisp and tasty- at $15.95, quite a bargain. My appetizer/meal was $13.95 but included two huge hunks of the grilled baguette, some really, really incredible pate, a lightly dressed green salad, etc. More than enough, though we could not resist dessert- an apple tart with a crumbly, almost shortbread like crust. It was slightly burnt and I was going to send it back but we found we couldn't stop eating it to send it back- it was still that tasty.

It was definitely an unexpected treat, and we'll definitely be back. It was a wonderful surprise to find this restaurant in the neighborhood.
