Had my second small meal today at Brandon's (which is a trailer, not a truck, a bit smaller but very compact and efficient). A condiment table is nearby for dressing, with small plastic lidded cups available for to-go saucing. Two different hot sacues, a guacamole sauce, chopped onions, sliced radishes, jalepenos, and cilantro are offered to garnish.
Brandon's offers Pastor, carnitas, pollo, chili verde in tacos, burritos, tortas.
They also make and serve their own chicken or pork tamales, fresh and hot from the steamer.
I had a pastor taco which came with 2 small griddled corn tortillas holding a large heap of pastor; and a pork tamal. The pastor was a bit dry, and pretty salty, but nicely seasoned with herbs and chile. With the addition of some cilantro and white onions it was quite tasty.
The tamal was very good--nice light masa, delicately flavored with broth and a bit of salt. The pork filling was nice sized chunks of tender, well-seasoned meat with occasional bits of stewed green poblano peppers. The effect was of full flavor and a texture that pleased the tongue. No overpowering spicing--this tamal showed a deft hand in the seasoning. I can't wait to try the chicken.
Brandon's is open for business parked at the Los Osos Rexall lot (on Los osos Valley Rd) on Tues and Thurs 11:00 to 6pm, and just east one block at the real estate office across from Von's (on LOVR) on Sat and Sun, same hours.
Anyone heading out to Montana de Oro St Park (quick, before Arnold closes it down) or to the back bay sand dunes, this is a great place to grab a good bite or three. My tamal and taco set me back $4.03. Sodas available. According to the SLO CO stickers, Brendan's has been doing business since 2005.
