I was at Costco in Nanuet, NY this weekend, and noticed that their kosher meat case was almost entirely poultry. The only beef product they had was ground beef and it was a new brand, Tomer as opposed to Solomon's that they carried previously. While it still claimed to be 85/15, it looked fattier than before. I looked them up and apparently they are not Glatt, just triangle-K and there are some posts from Jewish organizations saying that the certification is not acceptable. Wegman's carries their meat, which in theory should mean that it's good quality, but I don't know. And I have no idea what varieties they'll carry.
I don't personally care about it not being Glatt, but I really liked the Solomon's brand that they carried. The rib eye steaks and london broils were excellent, as was the ground beef. I was disappointed to see that they no longer carried them.
Has anyone heard anything official about this? I intend to email Costco and complain about the change, although I don't know how much good it will do.
