Box & Bells, Homestead, or somewhere else for a nice dinner in Oakland?

artemis78 | Feb 18, 2014 11:41 AM

We have a rare night out sans kiddo, and would like to try out someplace new in Oakland. Box and Bells, Hopscotch, and Homestead are already on the to-try list, so I'd love updated feedback on those (I did see the threads from last fall)--but would also welcome other suggestions.

We're specifically looking for places where you would not take a well-behaved young child--places we can really only try on our own. (For context, we take our child to places like Boot and Shoe or Sidebar with no qualms, but would avoid places like Haven or A Cote except right at opening time--so there's a line there somewhere, but not sure quite where it is.) Since I haven't been to any of these spots, I'm not entirely sure where they fall on that spectrum.

Under consideration are Box and Bells, Homestead, Hopscotch, and maybe Mockingbird. Among other newer places, we've already been to Penrose and Duende, and while Miss Ollie's is on the list to try, I'm pretty sure we can do that one with the kiddo in tow. Thoughts/recommendations, or other suggestions? Thank you!
