Boule de Neige

Any experiences with making boule-de-neige? I'm considering the black forest recipe on Epicurious for Christmas dinner. However, I'm a bit concerned about some of the reviewer comments about guests not enjoying the cake or it being undercooked.

Any alternate recipe suggestions or cooking tips would be greatly appreciated!
