Boudin in Houston - for you Jaymes

texasredtop | Jun 25, 2011 11:34 AM

I get good crawfish boudin at Abe's in Clear Lake. We've eaten lunch there a few times and the food was good, not fantastic but good. Scotty Abraham owns this location and gets his boudin from Abe's Grocery in Lake Charles owned by his Dad, Mr. Johnny. There are two Abe's Grocery Stores, the other one is owned by his brother. Mr. Johnny's is on Highway 14 just north of the 12th Street intersection. I grew up across the street from them and their products are very good but their crawfish boudin is excellent. Most of the recipes are from Scotty's Mom, Miss Faye. As a child I sat at her table for many meals. It was really nice to see my favorite crawfish boudin come to Clear Lake. I drove the 2 hours one way and back many times to bring some home for the freezer.

I know it's not Houston but just a hop, skip and jump away is some of the best boudin I've ever eaten. Nick's Grocery in Port Arthur. It was the first time I ever ate chicken boudin and it is still the best I've ever had.

On the New Orleans board, there is a thread for boudin and nothing but boudin. A lot of people don't think they can get good boudin in Texas but I guess they haven't ever been to Port Arthur to see that it's mostly cajuns living there :-)

Bon appetit cher!
