Bouchon Bakery update

Spent a lot of time in Yountville the last few days and have had the chance to try a few sweets from Bouchon Bakery. Prices are up there and quality for the few things I tried was not really worth it. The sugar brioche with a heart of brown sugar crystals was too dry (even at 8am) and lacking richness of flavor. The apricot financier had nice crumbly texture and flavor, but lacked the browned, chewy crust I've liked in other examples. The chocolate macaroon, two cookies sandwiched with creamy filling, was bland and indistinct in taste. The raisin roll had nice buttery pastry, and I liked the combination of sultanas and currants, yet the glaze was too damp and sullied what should have been a crispy golden brown top. I didn't try the croissants, almond croissants (with chocolate drizzles!), or pain au chocolat as they looked too big and soft to be worthwhile.

I wouldn't return here for breakfast pastries. Will try the breads next time.
