A new Uyghur place in Arlington has popped up, and with the demise of Silk Road in Falls Church City and Queen Amannisa in Crystal City, I was longing to have one close to me.
This is a good neighborhood restaurant, but not one I would travel to. There is an overall wateriness to the food which doesn't stop it form being tasty, but makes me wonder what's going on.
My favorite dish is the dry-fried Kazan Lamb (yay, no water) served over pita. Excellent use of spices. The big plate chicken was off the bone (!) with noodles. The flavor was correct even though the sauce was watery. I would get it again. We were offered a small version of this dish which sometimes comes on a big platter.
The cold skin noodles were watery and flavorless. Eggplant salad was served warm (bonus points) and flavor was good but not as good as Eerkin's, which is probably the best in the area right now. I think Eerkin's has three locations, one in Fairfax, Rockville, and Glover Park in DC. There is also Kiroran in Fairfax which is better than Bostan.
