When a visiting relative consults Yelp and says "let's go to Founding Farmers." you now have a reasonable counter offer. Think of it as a trump card.
Right at the corner of 13th and E Sts, NW, connected to the Warner Theatre, Boss Shepard's provides a menu and atmosphere that might assuage the family units and give you some thrills as well.
Plush, spacious, not too expensive, not too noisy. The idyll of a downtown upscale restaurant when family tension could get the best of you. It lacks the dinner salads that brings down the ticket price of a meal at Founding Farmers, but other prices are surprisingly in line.
I only had two items. I skipped for now the vaunted 12-hour brined fried chicken and opted for the pot pie fritters and the pickled shrimp appetizers. Pot pie fritters I would not hesitate to order again, the shrimp needs more of the chervil sauce that comes with it, so just ask. Both very satisfying.
A surprising, delightful option for this location.
