Borscht & Potato Pancakes

Ruby | Dec 5, 2000 10:30 AM

With the colder weather, I've been craving a hot homemade-style beef borscht. My mom used to make it with lots of beef, beets (of course) carrots and onions. Veselka's on Second Avenue makes good "Ukranian" borscht but I'm sure you Chowhounds can suggest other places for Beef Borscht. Thanks.

Any recommendations on where to get potato pancakes? In general, I'm disappointed with the Polish style renditions of dishes (Kiev, B&H Dairy, Veselka)I had as a kid that were prepared Yiddish style. For example, I tried potato pancakes at Veselka (again!) and saw they were frozen and then fried. To me, that was disappointing. Thanks,
Ruby
