Was invited to dinner at a friend and she says: I have prepared a surprise for you. We have known each other for quite a few years, and I was curious...and a bit hungry. Low and behold, as our first course she places a bowl of cold borscht in front of me. Brought me back to my childhood when borscht, hot or cold, was almost a staple. She had deftly mixed in beef broth, apple cider vinegar, a touch of horseradish, onions, garlic & pepper and some dill. It was a delicious potion!
