Borough Market -- Unbelievable cheese sandwich

Joan Kureczka | Sep 8, 2005 08:57 AM

We just returned from our latest London stopover, which included a second visit to Borough Market. Having been driven crazy by the smell of toasting cheese in April, I decided to try this time the sandwiches being offered outside Neal's Yard and was really glad for it. This was the most intensely wonderful cheese sandwich in memory: poilane bread, Montgomery cheddar, and sauteed leeks and garlic, toasted.

I also had the scallops that everyone here raves about, and will add my voice to that chorus. Plump, superfresh grilled scallops served on a scallop shell with sauteed sprouts, greens and bacon. One of the more pricy things you can eat in the market, but well worth it.
