Borealis bread opening Portland store

This is great news for me since I just bought a house a few streets away. Back Cove Deli makes great sandwiches a block away but they are looking for a new location.

From Maine Biz magazine.....

But there's a silver lining to some clouds. Looking back, Amaral says of the experience, "You lose an opportunity, you gain an opportunity." After leaving Hannaford in April he went looking for new digs in Portland and in January closed on a 2,700-square-foot building in Portland that will be the home of Borealis' third bakery. But it will be more than just a bakery. The new space, on Ocean Avenue near Cheverus High School, will be Borealis' first try at establishing a café. (The Wells location sells sandwiches and soups, but there are only two tables.) The new store, slated to open this July, will seat about 35 people and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu will include a variety of prepared foods, soups, sandwiches made with fresh Borealis bread and pizzettas baked in a pizza oven, Amaral says. It also will sell wine and beer. The new space is a "phenomenal opportunity," Amaral says, and if successful could offer a model for future growth. "It'll be a big change, but it'll be a fun one."

The article doesn't say the exact location but it is the old Penny Wise building. They are also planning to build a new 20 million dollar elementary school next to it at the Baxter school location. Business should be good.
