Last Friday I arrived home at SFO at dinner time and decided to try someplace new. I went to Boracay Garden and Grill on El Camino Real in South San Francisco, less than a mile north of I-380. This was a great choice!
There were lots of nice-looking dishes at people's tables, but since I was by myself I just had the seafood black rice along with a green mango shake. The seafood black rice was spectacular - great depth of seafood and other vegetable / spice tastes in the rice, combined with excellent mussels and shrimp, decent bay scallops, and topped with some perfectly fried calamari. I'm a fool for great rice dishes like biryani and arroz con pollo; this is at the top of that class.
The green mango shake was tasty but didn't dazzle me as much. I'll probably try out the calamansi juice next time.
I look forward to being able to try more things out there in the future. I'm pretty new to Filipino cuisine but the menu describes everything well so there was no problem ordering, or matching a lot of what was on other people's tables to what was on the menu (the black rice and the pata were among the popular choices).
