I'm trying a week or two without alcohol to see if it helps with a medical problem, but I'm at a loss for what to drink with dinner! Formerly, I would drink a glass or two of wine or beer with my meal.
I can't have any caffeine, so coffee and tea are out, and I hate soda pop. In general, I don't like sweet beverages with a meal, so most fruit juices don't work for me, either. And I'm really, really, really bored with water. I miss having a palate-cleansing drink that enhances my meal.
Yesterday, I drank club soda with a splash of balsamic vinegar, which gave me the nice winey-vinegary flavor that I like in wine. And it went nicely with the saffron-risotto cakes that I was eating. But it'll probably get too "samey" if I drink that every night.
Help me, oh you creative chowhounds, to come up with a few more ideas for a tasty dinner beverage!
