Five of us will be spending eight nights in an apartment in Paris then five nights in Brussels, in August. We have been to both places before. We are open to day trips out of both. Food is the essential for me - if I do not eat well on any trip, but certainly on a trip to these locations, I will be sorely disappointed and unpleasant. We plan one real splurge meal in Paris. And reasonably price otherwise. But between now and then, I plan to read, read, read.I liked Fred Plotkin's book on Italy, even though a bit dated. I also had Patricia Well's book on Paris when I was there in 2002.(How can that have been so long ago?) And I always read Rick Steves and the usual mainstream guides. Now I am reading Paris by Rutherford, history, not food, but gives me a sense of the past.
Enough of me - what books do you CH's suggest for me? Reading about all types of food available and its availability. Not just restaurants: markets, shops, bakeries, butchers, charcuteries, chocolatiers, and on and on and on.
