With Valentine's Day coming up, I wanted to post about a remarkable local Andersonville chocolate store called "Bon Bon." If you like high quality chocolate and are the least bit adventurous, I strongly urge you to make a pilgrimage. Being a raging chocoholic, I have tried many confectionaries and chocolate shops in and around Chicago. Up until recently my favorite store was Piron in Evanston, and although I will continue to go there, Bon Bon not only delivers amazingly good chocolate (with high cocoa solids and high cocoa butter content), they have captured my spirit of adventure. You see, I was longing for a store where I could buy chai tea chocolate, chinese five spice chocolate, or ancho chili infused chocolate, and still get my caramels at the same time. In short, a place that appealed to me on every level. (On really cold days, they even make a creamy, spicy hot chocolate with mexican chilis that is out of this world.) The tiny store is run by a mother and daughter team, and up until now it hasn't gotten nearly the amount of press it deserves. If you crave adventure and fine chocolate it can be found just north of Balmoral on Clark Street in Andersonville at Bon Bon. I promise you won't be disappointed.
