Bologna Outskirts Recommendation

VivreManger | Oct 25, 200201:51 PM     1

This may not help with the last Italian resto-question, but it is related.

For anyone with a car and a bit of time who wants to try a restaurant about 20 to 30 minutes from the town center of Bologna, I want to recommend Trattoria ai Gessi. I should admit that it is run by a distant cousin, but the plug is still justified. The owner-chefs are a couple, English (Jill) and Bolognese (Luigi). It takes some courage for an Englishwoman to cook in the center of Italian gastronomy, but the audacity is justified. I have had two meals there. One included a delicious wild nettle pasta, a kind of spicy fettucine verde. The desserts are amazing, a combination of the best of the English pudding tradition with Italian flare. It is worth a try.
Tell them I sent you. Jill & Luigi, 39-(0)51-758136, outside Bologna, Trattoria ai Gessi, via Gessi 15, Gessi, Zola Predosa (Bo).
