Boiler house - disappointing food and service

kosnyagn | Dec 29, 201006:03 AM

We were excited to go to the Boiler house last night with a group of 7. I had read some reviews that were positive. My experience, however, was quite disappointing.

First the positive: this is a gorgeous space. absolutely stunning decor, a great relazed atmosphere.

I was starving and ordered some frites as we waited for everyone to arrive and they were amazing. very tasty - crispy with a yummy dipping sauce.

two people had steak and it was good they said - done as per request.

from there things went downhill (at least for me!)

i ordered a cesear salad that on the menu sounded lovely and quite fancy. what came out, and i am not exaggerating, is something that was of wendy's quality. greasy, not well dressed, about 5 box croutons and a few shavings of cheese. so bland and disappointing. i could not believe i paid 10 bucks for that.

I also tried a bite of a friend's crab spring rolls - overwhelming fishy taste (crab does not usually taste fishy??) yuck. she did not finish it.

my main was the grouper and it was only OK. nothing spectacular. the paella it came with was kinda crunchy (rice tasted undercooked) and the fish was alright but again just ho-hum.

i tried some of a friend's tuna main and it was (again) very bland. tasted like they had put no flavouring on it at all.

I did not order dessert because i was so disappointed with the other food.

The service while respectful and pleasant was not very attentative. No one ever came to ask how our meals were even though the restaurant was half empty. water and wine glasses were not topped up. perhaps these are petty things but seriously! this place is not cheap and it was not busy.

I would not go back here. I was thinking we would try brunch but given our experience - no way!
