i have a student who told me about a new vegetarian restaurant opening in downtown huntington beach.
the bodhi tree is owned by the past owners of vien huong. they closed up both of the vien huong restaurants because of a family illness and now they're back.
it's small about 8 tables inside and 3 tables outside. very clean and nicely decorated. it's right next door to jan's heath food sandwiches. it's on main street about 1/2 mile from the beach.
This is one of those places where everything seems like meat but it's not.
I ordered the
spring rolls (good)
Chicken Satay Banh Mi sandwich (very good)
Jack Fruit Salad (really good... one of my favorite dishes: jack fruit with red pepper paste, shredded mint and basil on a bed of cruncy sesame chips)
Fried Calamari on a bed of spinach (very good, but the fried coating is so oily that you better share this dish with at least 4 people.)
Lemon Grass Chicken (okay, i like au lac's better)
Tofu with peanut sauce (good)
There is a ton of stuff i didn't order. I'd like to try
1. homemade ice cream
2. salmon skin salad
3. watercress beef salad
4. curry stew banh mi
5. fish fillet on a sizzling platter with dill
6. Thai Larb
they also have many choices of yellow noodles, rice noodles, and vermicelli.
they've only been open for a week or so. you might encounter some rough edges. just let the owners know they're really nice and i'm sure you'll have a good meal. it's a nice change of pace for downtown HB.
