On my way down to the Peninsula to celebrate the High Holy Days with my family, I met hubby coming back across 37 for dinner. We figured Novato was a good place to meet, so I started my research. My Mom had just gotten a Grace Ann Walden review of Boca Pizzeria and that sounded good, so we headed there.
Creamy Mozzarella Burrata (Fluer de Sel, Olive Tepanade, Crostini, EVOO)
Gathered Greens (Heirloom Grape Tomatoes, Lemon Vinaigrette, Ricotta Salata
Fennel Sausage & Pepperoni (San Marzano Tomato Sauce, Basil, Fresh Mozzarella)
Everything was really wonderful. The portion of burrata was huge, about 4-6 oz. of the heavenly and creamy cheese. The salty accompaniments could have over shadowed the silkiness of the burrata, but they were handled delicately and drew out the sweetness.
The salad was basic, but really lovely. There was a nice amount of peppery arugula which really zipped up the plain salad nicely. The ricotta salata was again, quite plentiful. The only complaint I had was there could have been more than 4 grape tomatoes.
Finally was the pizza! The sausage was ground very fine and was sprinkled loosely on the pizza. The texture was almost fluffy. There wasn't a strong fennel flavor, but it was nice none the less. The pepperoni was plentiful and spicy. The crust was nice, but I would have preferred it a little crisper, but I'm a fan of a dark crust.
The menu is quite expansive, with 4+ apps, 5+ salads (including dinner size salads with meat), 10 pizzas, and a few pastas and entrees.
The most fun surprise was finding out from the bartender, as we waited for our table, that Wednesdays are 1/2 price bottle of wine night! The wine list is quite expansive, with 50+ wines by the bottle and 25 or so by the glass. Hubby ordered a Syrah from Zaca Mesa that he loves, drank some, and took the rest home.
Dinner with out wine and tip was $40.00.
Not to shabby.
