Blue Room Brunch

Justin | Oct 21, 2001 10:07 PM

I went to the Blue Room for brunch today and thought it was a great value for an upscale brunch ($19 per person incl. coffee/tea; two seatings at 11 am and 1 pm respectively).

The appetizer/entree dishes were arranged on the bar in front of the grill/line area and included:

Mesclun greens
Carrot and beet salad
Tomato, Feta and Basil salad
Cold soba noodle salad
Chilled octupus salad (with bits of celery)
Grilled bluefish
Pork ribs
Flank steak with a spicy rub
Morrocan chicken
Barbecued baby lamb
Grilled salmon
Shrimp sauteed in their shells in some sort of spicy rub
Avocado quesadillas
Homeade pork sausage
Braised plantains
Scrambled eggs with mushrooms, asiago cheese, etc.
Home fries
Pancakes with sauteed bananas, syrup, etc.

My favorites were the shrimp, pancakes, sausage, plantains, and eggs. The soba seemed bland, a lot of the meets were indistinguishable and the salmon was rather overcooked. But overall, a tremendous number of choices and, after a heaping first plate, it was easy to pick out favorites the second time through.

The dessert options were equally impressive:

Kahlua cheesecake
Apple tart
Persian rice pudding
Upside down pineapple cake
Cranberry muffins
Chocolate, chocolate chip cookies
Coconut macaroons
Fresh fruit

The cheesecake and tart were amazing...
