For those of you who were fans of the Blue Palm restaurant formerly located on La Cienega, and for those of you who weren't as well, they are reopening and I recommend the new place highly.
The new location signage will read the Blue Palms Lounge, and is located at 6126 Hollywood Blvd., adjacent to the Music Box Theatre (previously known as the Henry Fonda Theatre). Their phone number is 323-464-0808. As I understand it, they will be open for service to the general public beginning this Friday evening, 9/10, and will begin taking reservations beginning 9/20, their official opening day. To begin with they will only be open for dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays, beginning service daily at 5:30.
The owner is the same as the old place and they have also retained Gabriel as their chef. He has kept a few dishes from the old place but most of them are new creations. I was there earlier this week for a preview, with the report as follows:
The menu focuses on small plates, dishes to be shared and enjoyed with others at the table. The menu currently lists about 18 items to choose from, averaging about $8-10 per, and knowing Gabriel, these items will probably vary as the seasons change. For the moment, highlights include the Shrimp on a wire, probably 10 or 12 count shrimp seasoned, grilled and then suspended on skewers above the plate and served with 2 difference dipping sauces, when we were there composed of both green and red heirloom tomatoes; there is also a lovely lobster, onion and gruyere macaroni and cheese, a strongly tarragon-scented crab cake, and a great dish of small fried chicken pieces served with blue cheese grits, and a delicate tea steamed halibut (steamed in specially built plexiglass boxes brought to your table)with a champagne grape chutney served alongside. Many of the other dishes are excellent adventures as well, but I'm working from sense memory at the moment and my faculties are failing me somewhat.
They have a few desserts available, though not presently prepared in-house; the night we were there they included a banana white chocolate cream pie, key lime and dried cranberry tart and a chocolate bombe. They have a full bar and a few house wines, though there should be a fuller wine list available in the near future.
