Blue Moon Pizza

Mrs. Smith | Jul 24, 2002 01:37 PM

A party of four was hungry for takeout, and we tried the Blue Moon Pizza on Scott, between Chestnut and Lombard, in the Marina. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza (don't blame me for the lack of imagination), a large Blue Moon salad, and four cokes to go. This came to 27.12, which I consider not bad for a dinner for four in the pricey Bay Area.

The pizza was nothing special, as I expected. Thin crust, adequately cooked and carefully topped with a not-too-thick layer of mozzarella, a decent sauce, and thin-sliced pepperoni. Edible, but nothing to write home about.

The Blue Moon Salad, which we didn't know anything about before we ordered it, was surprisingly good. I was amazed at the variety and judicious selection of the components. They were:

frisee
chopped romaine
crumbled chevre
fresh grapes (purple)
non-oily sundried tomatoes
red leaf lettuce
small diced cucumbers
halved dried apricot halves
dried sweet cherries (!)
hearts of palm
white mushrooms
marinated artichoke hearts
diced seeded fresh tomatoes
red onion

This was all coated VERY lightly in a non-vinegary creamy-type dressing, but the amount was so small it was an enhancement rather than a flavor in itself.

Very good, and what a surprise. And I don't usually like sweet fruit in a salad. Worth going back for, next time I'll skip the pizza.
