I had a birthday dinner on Saturday night at Blue Fish in Memphis. It was yummy. Okay, it was delicious. Really, the fish was amazing. Everyone at the dinner (8 people) loved their dinners. The atmosphere is fun, even for someone like me who doesn't really like going to the beach. The service is fabulous.
We ordered four appetizers to start. 3 were the specials and 1 was a scallop appetizer on the menu. Let's put it this way, I don't like scallops and I liked the scallops at Blue Fish. They melted like butter. The shrimp did not work so well as a sharing appetizer because there were only a few shrimp in the order but they were good. The seafood tamale was a hit, though I don't really like tamales. We should have passed on the mussels, they were good but really only a couple of us at them.
I had a pecan crusted snapper that was amazing. The fish was perfect, and the coating a perfect compliment. I had the beurre blanc sauce put on the side and never even tasted it. Oh the portions are very ample. If you can agree with someone you could share one entree and an appetizer and you'd be happy. But why not be hedonistic and eat the whole entree all by yourself.
I'd tell you about dessert but my friend made the cake and it would just make you sad that you didn't have any. Okay, I'll tell you... chocolate cake with strawberry's and cream filling. A dark chocolate ganache and buttercream frosting encased the cake. I'll tell you it was decadent and delicious.
