Summary: Food quite good, service LOUSY!
Four of us dined there on Saturday night. For appetizers we had a special soup--a green pea puree with crabmeat, the shrimp salad (shrimp, mango, dates, coconut, and cucumber), and the crabcake. I'd say the shrimp salad was the only weak choice--it could have used a little more pizazz to highlight the flavors. We were all very happy with our entrees: I had a delicious dish of thyme-infused salmon with corn, tomatoes, morels, and fava beans. My only complaint with it was that it could have been a little hotter in temperature. My companions had the halibut, black bass, and sea bass. Of the three, the halibut and black bass were excellent, the sea bass less so.
There were extremely long waits between courses (we were there for over three hours), which I suppose prompted the waiter to apologize and offer us dessert on the house. The sour cherry almond cake was amazing, better than my banana tart. Also good was a chocolate trio, consisting of a chocolate tart, a chocolate-orange mousse-y thing, and chocolate sorbet. They finished the meal off with petit fours, which was a nice touch.
Re the service, it seemed that our waiter was spread extremely thin. And the backup waitstaff was awful. They didn't refill our wine glasses--and we couldn't do it ourselves, as the wine was being kept in a chiller far away from our table. When they served our entrees, we were short a couple of utensils and couldn't communicate our needs to our non-English-speaking server. Another server came by with a pepper mill, so we told him about our wine and flatware needs, but he didn't understand us either and hastily rushed off to the next table to offer them his pepper milling services. Eventually, we were able to snag the waiter and tell him what we needed, but it shouldn't have had to come to that. And we shouldn't have even had to ask for these things in the first place--in a restaurant of the caliber that Blue Fin aspires to be, wine glasses should be refilled and place settings should be replaced without prompting from the diners.
That said, I still would go back again--the fish was THAT good.
