I went here their opening day Wednesday and then popped in on Friday. I was looking forward to this place and a bit surprised at how small it was, though the demo kitchen looks great. Anyway on to the important thing: food. And it was great.
Wednesday was Vegan Flava Cafe, the owner kindly gave me a sample platter and I was hooked: we had the tacos supreme special: black beans + walnut + avocado + tomato...it was great the beans soft and tasty and avocado meltingly ripe. Friday the special was Jackfruit bbq but I was on another mission, though it looked delicious. I'll be back to try everything...
Friday was Rumi Persian Cafe, I love Persian food, it's so subtle and the flavour profile wonderfully different. There were lamb shanks, khoresht ghameh (vegan yellow pea stew with persian limes), pomegranate chicken, zeresh chicken (with barberries). We had the lamb shank, meltingly good, the khoresht on a bed of rice and lentils, the pomegranate chicken plus dessert. The lamb shank was $12 the rest approx $9. Everything at Rumi was amazing, the owner extremely nice in explaining the various dishes. The delicious dishes and great prices mean I'll be returning asap.
Left Bank Butcher wasn't open but the owner extremely friendly next week they'll open and have charcuterie and meat to sell, later on sandwiches. I didn't get to try the bar or Soul Cocina...but I will! I now have an alternative to weaver st when I want to pick up dinner. Visiting Blue Dogwood is going to be a weekly event for me.
