Blue crab blues

Last night one of the specials at my favorite Mexican joint were blue crab tacos. I'd never had blue crab before (only dungeness) so I ordered them eager to try something new.

When they arrived the crab looked like canned tuna...kind of grey. I looked past that figuring blue crab must have its own color and texture.

Next up, the smell. So incredibly fishy. I again ignored that and dug in. Oh my...the flavor was so fishy and off-putting. The server asked how everything was and I gave him a thumbs up (my mouth was full) because I ASSumed blue crab must have its own unique flavor which some people may find pleasing.

Later on in the night my tummy was a bit rumbly but I blamed that on the beer I drank.

Question: is blue crab supposed to taste & look like that? Was the crab old? Bad? I live in a land-locked US state so obviously it wasn't caught that morning but for years I've enjoyed delicious sushi, shellfish, and other seafoods without problems.
