Trying out Blue Apron (and Competitors?)

We got a promo code so tried Blue Apron a few months ago. I was excited for it but unimpressed in the end. While there were a few things I wouldn't have thought of doing myself, for people like us who love to cook it was just ok. I rarely follow a recipe exactly and part of the fun for me is reading a lot of recipes and coming up with my own idea of how to do things. So this sort of left me unsatisfied creatively. So I canceled my subscription, but then they sent me another good promo code so I tried it again this week and my experience was much better. Perhaps is was the meals that were on offer this week, but each of the meals was good and not something I would make on my own. The best part was that I've always seen people spoon sauce over proteins on tv but never really thought of doing it myself, and this had me cooking cod while spooning brown butter and sherry vinegar over the fish, which made me irrationally feel like a pro. I'm definitely going to do that again. But even though this week was a much better experience, I feel like it's not worth the price to have myself locked in to a particular menu. And recipes I whip up myself take less time and are satisfying creatively (I . And on top of that, it's CSA season, so I want to focus on that.

Are other people enjoying Blue Apron or some other home cooking/meal kit service? I'm interested in trying Peach dish. I know there are a lot of competitors right now, and I'm now sort of inclined to try them all. I figure it's not going to last because the field will surely get thinned down, and while there's so much competition most of them have promo codes...
