We have been for brunch 3 or 4 times now and it is really the only true "brunch" place on the palouse. The rest of the restaurants on the palouse serve diner food and are mediocre at best including everyone's favorite "the breakfast club." I'd recommend the BLT, add a fried egg- absolutely fantastic!
This review, however is about dinner.
We brought in our own wine and were not charged a corkage fee, though we did tip as if we had bought the wine there, as it should be. We have had to pay at other restaurants up to $20 for a corkage fee, so this was greatly appreciated as money is quite tight.
In terms of food on the palouse, including scratch and mizuna in Spokane, our dinner at Bloom was in the top 2 meals I've had in the 2 years we've been here. The other great meal we've had was at Black Cypress in Pullman. Nectar's food (the 2 times we've been there) doesn't even make the top 5 unfortunately, you can read my review on it if so inclined.
I notice the little things when I go out to eat, because I believe that being served soft butter is just as important as properly seasoning a dish (and not putting out salt and pepper on the tables is a very bold statement, and if done so, I expect the food to be seasoned appropriately).
Now for the food:
We had oysters for our appetizer. While I'm not a huge fan of fried oysters, they were fine. The batter was decent, if not a little thick. They weren't overly greasy and the batter was crisp and the remoulade was very tasty. My wife loved them.
We both ordered the Lamb shanks. Her's came out pretty tough, not sure what happened as I expect they were all braised together. I had brought the bottle of wine (cinder syrah 2007) with that lamb dish in mind. The waiter took my wife's lamb back and they brought out a brand new one, which was more tender, with new starch and veg. Mine was tender, but could still have used another hour braising. While she had told them she was fine with them reusing the setup, they completely re-plated. While she waited, they brought out a little sampling of some of the pot pie filling. Once again, all these little things matter.
They also offered us a complimentary dessert. We had the bread pudding. I'm not sure how I felt about it as it was pretty heavy, and the slice we got could have served 4. It almost felt like it was a single piece of one of your homemade loaves of bread soaked in something and baked. The sauce was fantastic.
Speaking of your bread, I love it. The bread you offer for brunch is some of the best I've had anywhere. I would have loved some of that to come out before the meal. What we got instead were small rounds of what looked to be a baguette.
