"Bloo" new restaurant lower Haight (fried chicken and waffles!) (long)

At 400 Haight Street corner of Webster a new restaurant has been opened for just 2 weeks. 3 young women who had been classmates at the California Culinary Academy, after each going Her own way and working for others, decided that they would have a place of their own, which they named BLOO- a very attractive minimalist space of blond wood,... painted agua and white w/ accents of dark blue..white table clothes, and plates in solid blue or white. There are individual pepper mills on each table. They are open for lunch, dinner and brunch. I was there for brunch..sorry, only me, so I just have one meal to report about. After a complimentary scone and good coffee, I ordered Fried Chicken breast served with malted waffles w/ butter and brown sugar. I usually prefer dark meat, because the white meat is often dry. In this case however a beautiful and juicy/crunchy piece of white meat shared the plate with 2 (crisp!) waffles with a hint of malt and a fresh fruit salad of apples, kiwi, grapefruit and pomegranite seeds. I thought the breading on the chicken was perfect (not too thin and not too thick)with a taste of butter wafting through. I would definitely return. Additional less prosaic brunch items were: Biscuits and Sausage Gravy,...Irish B'fast w/ Irish bacon and Irish sausage 2 eggs, house made fries, beans and toast...Brisket hash, 2 fried eggs over tender beef brisket, onion and potatoes...Katsudon, breaded pork chop w/ sauteed onions over rice.A couple of things from the dinner menu...Freckled shrimp, rolled in a wonton skin (appetizer)Vegetable mousaka, Shepherds pie, Risotto cakes & ratatouille w/grilled portabella...Grilled chicken w/ orange & olive sauce, served w/ red wine risotto...etcDesserts: vanilla bean creme brulee, Forbidden Rice Pudding- w/vanilla bean ice cream...Guiness Spice Cake w/ apple caramel sauce. Vanilla Safron Panna Cotta w/red wine sour cherry compote. and Deconstructed German Chocolate Cake- warm choc. cake w/ coconut sorbet & walnut brittle. The women (owners/chefs) all came over to say hi, and I told them all about us. If the rest of the meals are up to the standard of my brunch, then the neighborhood has a winner!
