Bliss in Sunnyside

Mike | Jan 31, 2005 09:57 AM

I know that someone went to the new restaurant, BLISS in Sunnyside (corner of 46th St. and Skillman Ave.)recently and had mixed things to say about it. I had dinner there last night and, based on my one experience, had quite a good meal there and a positive experience. The restaurant space is indeed quite inviting (though the tables for 2 are a bit close) and the staff seems to want to please.
I had grouper (in lieu of Cod) on a bed of spinach and mushrooms and it was very good. Since my wife was out of town on business, I was there alone, but will look forward to a return visit with her and try other things.
As a long-time resident of Sunnyside, I welcome this restaurant. There have been some other attempts to have more up-scale food establishments here in Sunnyside other than the typical pubs that are still around with typical pub food and none seems to have succeeded (years ago when Frank Havelicek, my neighbor in Sunnyside Gardens who did much to get Sunnyside and Sunnyside Gardens on the map, tried to have a more up-scale lunch and dinner site, just a few stores away from Bliss, it failed. But, the population was quite different then. So, Bliss is welcome and I feel is a most positive addition to the neighborhood.
