After following people's comparison's on pizza and cupcakes (most recently the one where the guy who wanted to find some place to take his two year old for pizza), i decided to do a cheap easy night and try bleecker st. pizza and amy's bread cupcakes since they've both been heavily endorsed on this board and i've never had either (i've always like crumb, and i lot of people have said amy's bread is better). My pizza was soggy and droopy on the bottom, and was so crisy on the top (not in a good way) that i couldn't even fold it without it basically breaking like a cracker. it didn't taste horrible, but it was average at best, I wouldn't even go back if i were in the nighborhood.
As for Amy's bread, i feel like this is the worst cupcake i've had anywhere in manhattan. worse than magnolia (which i don't think are horrible, just unremarkable). This is the closest thing i've ever had from an actual bakery to entenmanns. the icing was quite hard, more so than stuff you'd get from a can. cake was moist and fine, but unremarkable. the icing is what brought it down for me. I still like crumb the best, and am a fan of sugar sweet sunshine too.
Did I hit both of these palces at bad times? I can imagine people were eating what i ate and be raving about it? are they both just wildly inconsistent?
