BLD for Lunch

Wolfgang | Jul 2, 2009 10:11 AM

I went to BLD for lunch and had the bbq fried chicken sandwich.
It's a fried chicken breast served on a toasted and buttered ciabatta / Italian roll with coleslaw, greens and bbq sauce.
I didn't want a drenched syrupy sweet sandwich so I ordered the bbq sauce on the side. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. The chicken had a perfectly crisped, well seasoned and slightly spicy batter. The chicken was expertly fried--great crust and moist chicken. The roll was a lovely accompaniment--crusty and tender without being a fluffy sponge or difficult to handle. The bbq sauce was served warm and was thinner in consistency than the usual bbq sauce and wasn't sweet and inundated with hickory flavour. The cole slaw was the only part of the sandwich that I didn't love. The dressing had some orange juice in it and I didn't like that flavour profile being added to the sandwich. Thankfully, it was only a vague hint of orange and in no way overwhelmed the sandwich.
$18 including fries.
